    Experienced in Love

At Christian Living Communities-The Village, our sixteen resident couples not only remembered their sweethearts for Valentine's Day this year, they went one step further and defined what makes a truly great marriage. These remarkable couples, with their 875 combined years of wedded bliss, shared their advice and secrets for success in love and marriage. Relationship insights these residents offer in honor of Valentine's Day are:

    1. Spend time with each other, enjoy companionship, and trust each other.
    2. Give and take. You have to work at it.
    3. Communicate.
    4. Make sure you always go to bed together and always say goodnight!
    5. Take one day at a time.
    6. Love one another.
    7. Always consider the other person.
    8. Maintain a sense of humor, remain best friends.
    9. Remember that marriage is not always 50-50.
    10. Make sure the other person feels like they're getting 90%.
    11. Never return your partner's hissy fits!
    12. Don't think too much of yourself!
    13. Be sure to share common interests.
Our happily married Village couples began their married lives with honeymoons all around the U.S. including the California coast; Charleston, South Carolina; Yellowstone National Park; Wisconsin and then on to Ohio to paint a cottage; the Black Hills of South Dakota; Fort Sills, Oklahoma; and Notterbridge, England.

    Celebrating Love

Valentine's Day for seniors who don't have spouses, or have lost their mates can still be a joyous celebration. This day of celebrating love gives us so many opportunities to take note of the special people who have touched our hearts and lives. After all, love is a universal emotion running through all of us, just ready for expression.

Seniors can treasure their family, friends, and neighbors and recall fond memories of loved ones who have passed on. Whether the love you express and celebrate this Valentine's Day is romantic, platonic, or family-oriented, just appreciating and acknowledging those who have impacted your life will bring love to your heart.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
